The General Data Protection Regulation 2018 (GDPR)
From 25 May 2018, a new data protection regime came into force in the UK. The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) introduces key changes to the way personal data is handled. It is EU legislation, but the GDPR stands regardless of Brexit.
There are several important areas to consider. These are who and what is affected; controllers and processors; the principles of data protection; accountability and governance; new rights for data subjects; breaches of data security. We provide an overview of each of these in turn:
